Dear Dolphins,
The W8 Global Conference in Manzanillo, Mexico was a resounding success! Held at the beautiful Barcelo Karmina Palace resort with hundreds of wonderful people from all over the world, we played, learned, taught, and talked about intellectual, financial, and spiritual success. The Mexican people were so warm, loving, and open-hearted – I definitely knew I was with “My People!”
I met Marci Shimoff, teacher in The Secret and author of Chicken Soup for the Woman’s Soul and 5 other bestsellers, in Mexico City where we were on the same connecting flight. She is a doll and we hit it off immediately. We had been looking forward to meeting each other since we had corresponded often in the last year about my story in her new book due in January: Happy for No Reason. Isn’t that a great title?
At the end of the trip, Marci, Bob Doyle (author of Wealth Beyond Reason and also in The Secret), and I basked in the sun on the beach and then splashed into the water. The whole time we talked about speaking, the Law of Attraction, successful internet marketing campaigns, ideas for new books, products, programs, etc. I had to laugh, and remarked to them that this was a sure sign we loved our work – to float in the ocean in a beautiful resort and talk business! It was wonderful how we all supported each other – every speaker attended every other speaker’s presentation to lead the applause. Life is full of wonder and pleasure. And to think I get paid to do this - I love my life!
You know how I got here. I did my affirmations faithfully every day. I sent out ships, counted my money, counted my time, swam with dolphins, set my goals, survived the storms, and made sure to take time every day to thank God for my wonderful life (yes, even before it was wonderful). It works if you work it!
The Financial Stress Reduction Workshops and Certification Program:
As I mentioned last month, next year I will be certifying coaches, therapists, financial professionals, consultants, etc. to teach the Financial Stress Reduction® Workshops in their area. It will be a perfect fit for people who want to coach a program with an already proven brand, two books, and an active website getting lots of traffic. Let me know if you want to receive information on the program when it becomes available.

ARTICLE: Life Changes When Book Launches
My friend and fellow author, Donna Cutting, is about to launch her book, The Celebrity Experience, in January. It is very exciting! She was represented by my agent, Lisa Hagan at Paraview, Inc., who found her through the Dolphin Club (Lisa will review the non-fiction book proposal of any of my Dolphin Club members. For info, go to www.chellie.com and click on the Dolphins). Donna had heard many tales from authors of how your life changes after a book launch, and wrote to ask me what to expect…
Ah, this is a very big subject! And it applies not just to authors, but to anyone who experiences some good PR and public attention. The experience can be encapsulated in the word “More” - more of everything: more speeches, more email, more interviews, more radio, more people interested in what you do, and more requests for lunches from other business owners who want to pick your brain. It was after the 10th lunch that I wrote my "Book Publishing Report" and made it a product and put it in the Dolphin Club as a downloadable. (File that under “Listen to the marketplace and give them what they want!”)
And yes, there is more money, too. And the trick is, you just pick a number and ask for it! Speaker fees are all over the map, and because that hasn't been my primary source of income, I am fine if someone says "no thanks" when I tell them my fee. If I'm going to spend three days (two for travel and one giving the speech and schmoozing with the organizers and participants), I want to be well-paid for it, otherwise it’s more profitable for me to stay home. I speak for free in LA if it is my target market and I figure some people will sign up for the workshop, $2,500 if I have to drive more than an hour to get there or it's not my target market, and $10,000 if I have to get on a plane. Some groups will ask you to fly, pay your own expenses, and speak for free for the “publicity value” and some even ask the speakers to pay for the privilege of addressing their group of prospective buyers. But I think those routes are for people just starting out – the value a professional speaker brings to the meeting is worth money!
The best part of all of it is the increased recognition and respect you get from people - old friends and new. There is a special awareness that if you were able to jump through all the hoops to get published, you must be good! And I've loved all the testimonial letters I've gotten from strangers, near and far. When I got my first fan letter from India, I almost fell off my chair. I saved them all in a big "Book Reviews" file, so whenever someone is mean to me, I can remember that lots of people love me, too! Ask everyone you know to write a testimonial on the online bookstores like www.amazon.com and www.barnesandnoble.com – it helps your sales ranking and encourages people to buy it. (Hey, Dolphins! If any of you readers of The Wealthy Spirit or Zero to Zillionaire would like to post a review for me, I’d love to see it!)
My number one piece of advice to you is: relax and enjoy the ride! You won't be able to do everything that comes your way, and you will exhaust yourself if you try. So pick a number of hours you are willing to work, work them the best you can, and then take naps, breaks, days off, mini-vacations, etc. all along the way. Enjoy the journey - there's no "there" there. Even after reaching the pinnacle of success - being on "Oprah" eh? - all the speaker authors are still out there working away, doing what they’ve always done. They have a bit more influence and money in the bank, but other than that, it just ain't different. We creative people are always dreaming up new books, products, markets, speeches, etc. etc. - it's endless. And it's fun! So keep it fun, and don't stress yourself about having to do it all. It's just not going to be possible, so give yourself a break. In fact, give yourself many breaks!
In 2006, my second book, Zero to Zillionaire, was released in the spring, and then I also worked all that year on setting up my online subscription membership, the Dolphin Club, which launched that September. Those were two big projects to initiate while still doing my usual work of teaching 3 workshops a week, networking, speaking, answering email, writing newsletters, et al! I was exhilarated, but exhausted. And I still had more books and projects on my list, number one of which was developing my Train-the-Trainer program for the Financial Stress Reduction Workshops. As I looked at creating my goals for 2007, I felt my overwhelm and tension rising - this was success, but it didn't feel good! It was the downside of success. So I gave myself permission to NOT DO ANYTHING NEW IN 2007! That was a terrific goal, and made me relax and happy.
Nine months later (interesting number, that), I was in the middle of teaching three workshops a week, speaking, networking, and enrolling the next three workshop sessions, when all of a sudden the thought came, "I'm ready for the next level." And then I knew that it was time to design and develop the Trainer program, and teach others "How to Make $200,000 a Year as a Seminar Leader Without Leaving Your Home". So now I'm working on that big project, but I have the energy and drive to do it because I gave myself a rest. I can't emphasize rest enough. When you're tired and worn out, everyone can tell – and that isn't the "you" you want people to see.
“Do” your work and then “Be” at rest. Or as Frank Sinatra said, “Do be do be do!”
